So after many, many, many months of searching for a new blog template, I’ve finally found the one I think is going to compliment the webcomic PERFECTLY. Not that there’s anything webcomicky, per se, about the new design, but what I wanted and frankly needed was a design that was:

  1. Modern and filled with wundyful CSS3 magic
  2. A template that could act as the face for KILLING THE GRIZZLY comics, which it will also be, showcasing THE DESERT PEACH WEBCOMIC, A WASTE OF TIME Webcomix, the upcoming ARMAGEDDONQUEST Webcomic, and the western gothic manga sensation HOPELESS, alongside the GILLIAN’S HEART Webcomic. So it’s got to be semi-corporate, able to manage a “company” branding as well as be an obvious home base for GILLIAN’S HEART and my own personal ramblings.
  3. Something I actually like. Dammit.

Especially considering that third requirement, it was a LOT harder to find a new design that I originally thought it’d be. Still, it’s all good now. The new design template has been found, and it should be unleahsed/unveiled shortly before or directly alongside the webcomic when it hits. And because god forbid you’re not interested, I thought I’d share all the runners up for new blog design:

Maestro Rick Worley is hard at work scribbling wonderful little sketches for us. Three more are in the can:

Gillian X and Nuts the Wonder Squirrel

Rick’s second go at Gillian X, our heroine. You’ll recall from the first CountUP that we thought she was a touch stumpy-lookin’, and as Mr. Worley had admitted to a Frank Quitely inspiration, we pointed him toward this Wonder Woman cover the FQ did. And up above you see the evolved result. Pretty nifty, eh? I adore the little pooch above her belt line. And I swear it took me a solid ten seconds before I even noticed NUTS, THE WONDER SQUIRRELL hovering up there in the far right corner. I laughed out loud when I saw it.

If you haven’t see Rick’s older (but so incredibly cool!) first and full take on Nuts, allow me to correct that:

Nuts the Wonder Suiqrrel battles Hitler (in his dreams)

That has to be one of the coolest character sketches ever. ExPECT to see that sucker on a t-shirt and mugs and more when the time is right!

Next up is plain clothes sketches of Gillian’s nemesis, Mr. Right, in his civilian identity, Walden Montgomery:

YES! At long last the official countodown to the GILLIAN’S HEART WEBCOMIC lauch date begins!

What will be the date? That’s unknown as of now, but within a few short months one way or the other. The artist is getting ahead of himself, to give us some lead time (first page is in the can! Whoot!), and as soon as we’re abotu 2 months ahead, we’re shoving this puppy out the gate. So look for an approximately early July kick-start. Hell, maybe we can make it happen right smack on my B-day: July 3rd (day before the 4th, my naked-suit day being the much more important day, IMHO).

So here’s the first update, the first official character sketch of lead characters, Gillian and Dave:

Rick Worley's GILLIAN AND DAVE Character Sketch

Rick usually has a Robert Crumb/Bill Watterson vibe going on with his work, so he was in particular need of finding “superhero” art styles to inspire him to find his way to drawing his own superhero series. He was apparently riffing on Frank Quitely for this rendition. I love it to pieces, though we pointed him toward a Frank Quitely WONDER WOMAN COVER to get a slightly less stumpy look for “Gillian X” (Gillian’s superhero alter-ego in the comic – it’ll make more sense when you actually get to read the series, trust me).

As an example of Rick’s swift evolution as an artist, and just because so much time has gone by since the last time I posted these, let me show you this first character sketch he did of Gillian X’s nemesis, “Mr. Right”….

Immense Updates are coming!!!

Yes, we’ve been awful quiet around these here parts. But holy hell is it NOT because we’ve been idle. Lots of news to announce, which is coming up right after this “hey, hey, we’re back” post. GILLIAN’S HEART BLOG is going to be changing in the near future, getting a little slicker, possibly a new design to reflect the new elements that should be added on within the next month or so. Maybe I’ll just add some new pages, but more likely I’ll be giving this site a complete overhaul.

So what are the updates? To tease, the updates will be:

  • Regular postings of new content of the first webcomic site I ever designed, www.RickWorley.com, which hosts the regular “webcomix” series, A WASTE OF TIME. Look for every post there to be posted here, the first of many webcomics that will be produced under a single banner, that banner being me, though I promise to eventually come up with a cleverer name that that. Or…who knows? Maybe “Me Comics” is good? (likely the artists won’t think so!) Rick also happens to be the artist on…

As we all await news of when “GILLIAN’S HEART” will launch as a webcomic (yes, even I’m waiting for it! Arguably more eagerly than any of you. Which is how a new property begins – the creator is the biggest fan, in fact the only fan, if you subtract social pressure and guilt trips to get your friends to read it), I’m here to talk about another creator-owned small press book, one whose online serialization begins TODAY.

Yes, no waiting, it just started, and where did it start? Where’s is it being posted. Oh, man, you won’t believe it, this should make most webcomickers jealous as f*ck.

So I ordered JASON COPLAND’s convention sketchbook a few weeks back.  This is a guy who was just plucked up to illustrate covers and back-up stories in Image’s PERHAPANAUTS ongoing.  The sketchbook is a beaut, but even better, Jason offered to draw anything I wanted in the book’s inner back cover, and I opted for [...]

Lots of news! Well, sort of. Lots of news to come.

Our first MR. RIGHT story is on its way, as art by the incredible RICK WORLEY pours in. More on that in the very near future. But here’s a sneak peek:
