Hey all. It’s been QUIET around here the last few days. Not just because of NewYears (HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!) but also because I have been SLAVING over trying to build a webcomic site. I’d been poking around the doing of it for a few months now, but the last two weeks have been in-the-trenches making it happen. It’s actually looking pretty damn good…but it doesn’t yet work. I’m currently struggling to get the damn site navigation to operate without quirks. Oy. Gonna be at least a few more days before that’s in place. It’d all be easier if I just built a site from scratch, and used maybe ComicGallery 1.2 for organization. I know my way around HTML and CSS so that would be a snap, but alas, I decided to put my money down on ComicPress (a theme/offshoot of Wordpress), because let’s face it – it IS the evolution of the webcomic. It’s a webcomic gone 2.0 with built-in SEO optimization out the wazoo. There is no better set-up, in the long run, than running your webcomic on the ComicPress platform.
Here’s the proof: it’s such an evolution it’s fucking impossible to figure out! Well, not impossible, but Wordpress (and therefore ComicPress) runs nigh-entirely on PHP code, which I’m a dunce with. But I’m learning. Still, while ComicPress is the webcomic format of the future, it leaves a LOT to be desired in easy customization. But I’m learning. Do I keep saying that? I think I need to believe it.
Anyway, here’s some new TOM BROWN art to share with you, as a gift for having been so quiet of late. This displays Tom’s underlying love of manga to a “T”. It’s a lighthouse/machine of some sort, some kind of time-traveling apparatus or…damn, Tom explained it to me but I forget. Here, let me dig this out of my email…here we go:
Just to give you an idea of the degree of detail I’m putting into the design for “Hopeless”, here are elements of the “magical” machinery which is a part of Sal’s lighthouse. (major plot points hinge on this at the end of Personal Demons and at the opening of Hopeless)
Also…Sal’s insane grandfather who designed and built the lighthouse and machinery. On the lamps…each one has a word in Chinese as part of the process/”spell” one says “opening” (as in…a gate) the other says “protection”.
Anyway, it plays a significant part in Tom’s upcoming opus, HOPELESS. So take a sneak peek and fall in love.
